Retro Route
What is Retro Route?
From 2018 and onwards, a new map called the Retro Route opens during the month of May.
All Pokémon contained on the map have old sprites, from the original hand-held games (as seen below). The map is open every for one hour, every three hours. During this hour, you can catch as many Pokémon as possible. All Pokémon are categorized into 5 groups, Ultra Common, Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Ultra Rare.
Population Percentage
However, there is a catch. The catch is that you have a population percentage, which essentially means that you start out at 100%, but as you catch Pokémon you scare other Pokémon away and this percentage goes down and limits the type of Pokémon you can catch.
After each hour you search, during the three hour cool down period, your population percentage goes up by 50%.
Population percentage needed to catch Pokémon from each rarity:
- Ultra Common: 1-100%
- Common: 20-100%
- Uncommon: 40-100%
- Rare: 60-100%
- Ultra Rare: 80-100%
Please note that catching legendaries does not affect your population percentage.
2018
For the 2018 Retro Route, Generation 1's original sprites were used.
- On top of all 146 non-legendary Pokémon being obtainable, each user had the choice of hunting 2 of their very own legendary Pokémon. Each legendary started off with a 1/2000 chance of being found, but your chance of finding it slowly increased over time.
- In honor of the nostalgia, there was even a 1/8192 chance of finding a
